In his first media interview since being shot, Trump told The Examiner that he had originally planned to talk about President Joe Biden\u2018s policies in his speech, but he has now changed course.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,\u201d Trump said. \u201cHad this not happened, this would\u2019ve been one of the most incredible speeches. Honestly, it\u2019s going to be a whole different speech now.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThis is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together. The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would\u2019ve been two days ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump was shot at Saturday\u2019s rally when he looked to his right. In his interview, he noted that he nearly always faces the crowd head-on and rarely looks away, a move that he implied likely saved his life.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat reality is just setting in,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cHad I not done that in that moment, well, we would not be talking today, would we?\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump also was asked about the moment where he raised his hand in a fist and could be seen saying \u201cfight\u201d to the crowd. He said he wanted to reassure attendees that he was fine and that \u201cAmerica goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe energy coming from the people there in that moment \u2014 they just stood there; it\u2019s hard to describe what that felt like, but I knew the world was looking,\u201d he said. \u201cI knew that history would judge this, and I knew I had to let them know we are OK.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zito appeared on CNN on Sunday night to talk about the interview with Trump, saying he\u2019d called to check on her and see if she was OK as he was boarding his plane from Bedminster, New Jersey, to Milwaukee. Zito then asked Trump if she could ask him some questions for a story, and he obliged.<\/p>\n
CNN also reported Sunday that Trump underwent a precautionary CT scan after the shooting that came back clear.<\/p>\n
Also on Sunday, President Joe Biden addressed the country twice, calling for unity and condemning the shooting.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics, and to remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re neighbors, we\u2019re friends, co-workers, citizens. And most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together.<\/p>\n
