Mar\u00eda Corina Machado mistook Washington\u2019s signals for revolutionary backing. She read sanctions, naval deployments, and Donald Trump\u2019s threats of intervention as a green light for bottom-up rupture\u2014mass mobilization, political-prisoner releases, and opposition empowerment. In reality, U.S. intent was narrower: remove Nicol\u00e1s Maduro personally, preserve the state apparatus, and stabilize oil flows, as reflected in Reuters\u2019 reporting on U.S. plans to manage Venezuelan oil output<\/u><\/a>\u2014not to trigger a revolutionary upheaval.<\/p>\n

The Misread Signals<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Machado interpreted aggressive U.S. posturing as leverage inside Venezuela. Her dramatic escape in late 2025<\/u><\/a>\u2014facilitated through Oslo channels with reported U.S. facilitation\u2014was framed as protection from imminent regime crackdowns. From exile, she declared the transition \u201cunstoppable,\u201d rallying international attention, diplomatic sympathy, and calls for broader opposition empowerment.<\/p>\n

Yet exile also bracketed her influence. Outside Venezuela, she commanded headlines and global platforms; inside, the Chavista machinery continued to function uninterrupted. Power consolidated around entrenched figures such as Vice President Delcy Rodr\u00edguez<\/u><\/a>, whose post-Maduro role signaled regime continuity, and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino L\u00f3pez<\/u><\/a>, long described as the linchpin of Venezuela\u2019s military-state nexus. Machado’s domestic mobilization capacity evaporated, leaving her with voice but no ground game.<\/p>\n
